Mitchell's Hills and HollersMEAT the Mitchells! Kristi Mitchell took ownership of Mitchell's Processing in August 2018. Shortly after, in August of 2019 her husband Carl joined her full-time due to an increased customer base. They opened Mitchell's Butchery in 2020 as a storefront for customers to have access to locally grown and processed meat.
The meat that is available at Mitchell's Butchery either comes from their personal farm, Mitchell's Hills and Hollers, or other local farms. Carl and Kristi have always had a passion for farming, so it only made sense for them to be able to help local farmers and be able to bring quality meat to the people in their community. Not only do they strive to provide quality products to their local community from their own farm and others, but they also learn and grow in the processing side of their business every day! Since taking ownership of Mitchell's Processing Facility in 2018, their mission has been to make the processing side of the business run more smoothly, be more effective, and more efficient. In addition, the Mitchell's Processing Plant practices procedures to be robust humane handlers under the USDA when dealing with their animals. They couldn't do what they love without the help and support of their kids who have been along on this exciting journey and all of the support from people like YOU! |
Gentry Homeplace Angus FarmHoward Gentry is a long time Angus breeder located in King, NC. Howard has had a passion for raising Angus cattle since a young age when his father and uncle purchased their first registered Angus heifers in 1948. Howard purchased his first registered Angus heifer at the age of 9 from the profits he generated through his 4-H steer project in 1964! Howard then went on to study at North Carolina State University where he got a degree in Agricultural Economics. After graduating he started working full time with Carolina Farm Credit and operated his farm part time. Now Howard and his wife Donna own and operate Gentry Homeplace Angus on a full time basis. On their farm they implement practices and technology that include artificial insemination, performance testing, DNA genomic testing, ultrasound testing for carcass traits, and ultrasound pregnancy testing. Their herd health vaccinations are completed in accordance to the guidelines set in place by NC Beef Quality Assurance. Over the years, Howard has served as President of the Stokes County Cattlemen's Association, NC Angus Association, NC Cattlemen's Association, and the NC Cattlemen's Foundation. Howard's philosophy on being a successful cattle producer is that one must first become successful in forage and grassland production. To ensure he is producing the best quality forage he can for his livestock he implements soil testing, forage sampling, and hay sampling on his farm.

Ferguson Family FarmsHi, we are Tanner and Sawyer Ferguson. We raise beef for Mitchell’s Butchery. We have a true love for agriculture and educating the community of where their food comes from! Tanner has a bachelor's degree in Animal Science, and Sawyer has a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education and teaches Ag at South Stokes High School. Aside from the two of us, the farm is run by the entire family, each has an important role in the operation. Our story began in 1884 when John and China Ferguson purchased the farm and began growing tobacco. The farm switched to a beef cattle production when John’s son, Luther Ferguson, took over. Ferguson Family Farms is a registered century farm, which means that the Ferguson family has been farming on the land for over a century. Today the farm is still owned and operated by the Ferguson family. We are extremely passionate about producing the safest and healthiest beef for our community, while still staying true to the family values that were handed down from generations before us. We produce primarily Angus and Simmental Beef. Our animals are fed a variety of food that includes grass, grain and minerals. We are very intentional about what we choose to feed our animals based on their body’s requirements. While our animals mainly receive a grass diet, we supply grain and minerals to supplement nutritional loss during the winter months or finishing. We love our animals and treat them with the utmost care and respect, so we can provide healthy and quality meat from our farm to your family.
